plan for portrait assignment

i have a self portrait assignment coming up and i think in going to take a self portrait of me. i want to shoot it in the gym or in the hallway.i am going to be careful of making sure these photos of me are going to have most of the rules of photography and be sure to make them alot better than my past pictures and i feel this will make my pictures successful..
